Beaded partitions with k colors

چکیده

In this paper a new category of partitions called beaded partitions with k colors will be introduced. The generating functions for these partitions will be given and several properties and congruences will be presented. A beaded partition of a positive integer n is a necklace made up of strands of beads in k colors where the total number of beads in the necklace is n. Sliding the beads around the strand does not change the strand and changing the order of the strands in the necklace does not change the partition. However, flipping a strand can result in a different strand. For example if k = 2 then there are two distinct strands with one bead, three distinct strands with two beads, and four distinct strands with three beads which are illustrated in Figure 1. Figure 1. Beaded Strands with 2 Colors. Note that the three strands in Figure 2 are equivalent since the beads can be slid around the strand to form each of these color configurations. Received by the editors March 2, 2011, and in revised form August 10, 2011. 2000 Mathematics Subject Classification. 05A05.

Avoiding Colored Partitions of Two Elements in the Pattern Sense

Enumeration of pattern-avoiding objects is an active area of study with connections to such disparate regions of mathematics as Schubert varieties and stack-sortable sequences. Recent research in this area has brought attention to colored permutations and colored set partitions. A colored partition of a set S is a partition of S with each element receiving a color from the set [k] = {1, 2, . . ...

Combinatorial proofs of generating function identities for F-partitions

In his memoir in 1984, George E. Andrews introduces many general classes of Frobenius partitions (simply F-partitions). Especially, he focuses his interest on two general classes of F-partitions: one is F-partitions that allow up to k repetitions of an integer in any row, and the other is F-partitions whose parts are taken from k copies of the nonnegative integers. The latter are called k color...

k-Efficient partitions of graphs

A set $S = {u_1,u_2, ldots, u_t}$ of vertices of $G$ is an efficientdominating set if every vertex of $G$ is dominated exactly once by thevertices of $S$. Letting $U_i$ denote the set of vertices dominated by $u_i$%, we note that ${U_1, U_2, ldots U_t}$ is a partition of the vertex setof $G$ and that each $U_i$ contains the vertex $u_i$ and all the vertices atdistance~1 from it in $G$. In this ...

On the non-optimality of four color coding of image partitions

Recent interest in region based image coding has given rise to graph coloring based partition encoding methods. These methods are based on the four color theorem for planar graphs, and assume that a coloring for a graph with the minimum possible number of colors will result in the most compressible representation. In this paper we show that this assumption is wrong. We show that there exist gra...

Stirling number of the fourth kind and lucky partitions of a finite set

The concept of Lucky k-polynomials and in particular Lucky χ-polynomials was recently introduced. This paper introduces Stirling number of the fourth kind and Lucky partitions of a finite set in order to determine either the Lucky k- or Lucky χ-polynomial of a graph. The integer partitions influence Stirling partitions of the second kind.
